About the event
The Jazz on the Avenue series brings "Birdland Guitar Night" to the Yocum Institute for Arts Education, with guitarists Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo sharing the stage for an evening built around six strings and close listening.
Vignola is among the most sought-after guitarists working internationally, known for a dynamic style that moves easily across genres and has carried him to audiences on three continents. Raniolo, his frequent collaborator, is an accomplished player in his own right, bringing a warm tone and inventive accompaniment to the duo. Their long partnership shows in the interplay between them, with melodies traded back and forth and rhythm work that keeps the whole thing swinging.
The Yocum Institute sits on Penn Avenue in West Lawn and offers an intimate room where the detail in acoustic guitar playing comes through clearly. It makes a good night out for jazz listeners, guitar players, and anyone curious to hear two musicians who know each other's playing inside and out.
