Happy Hollow Playground takes on a seasonal alter ego when Wyomissing Borough Parks and Recreation hosts the Spooky Hollow Halloween Carnival. The afternoon runs from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, an easy daylight window for families with younger trick or treaters who would rather celebrate before dark.
In past years the carnival has spread across the park with games, craft tables, a haunted pavilion, a pumpkin patch and a costume contest, with food trucks on site selling refreshments. Costumes are very much part of the fun, and the playground setting gives kids room to roam between activities.
The carnival lands in the middle of a busy Halloween stretch for the borough, which also runs its house decorating contest and the Pumpkin People displays around town through October. Parking and walk in access are at 1100 Wayne Avenue, and comfortable shoes are a good idea for a grassy park afternoon.
