The Reading Symphony Orchestra closes its season at the Santander Performing Arts Center with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, led by conductor Andrew Constantine. Tchaikovsky remains one of the most widely performed composers in the classical repertoire, known for sweeping melodies and rich orchestration, and the Fifth carries listeners from brooding uncertainty to a blazing finish.

The evening also brings a cello concerto by Patrick O'Malley, co-commissioned by the Reading Symphony Orchestra, with soloist Robert deMaine. deMaine is principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and has appeared at halls including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw. O'Malley writes for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and film, and teaches composition at California State University, Northridge. Hearing a new work beside a symphonic landmark makes for a rewarding pairing.

The hall sits at 136 N 6th Street in downtown Reading. Concertgoers who dine beforehand at Cheers Bistro in the DoubleTree can use free parking there along with a round-trip shuttle to the concert.
