About the event
TRICH is a solo play written and performed by Becca Schneider and directed by Jenn Haltman and Casey Pfeifer. It introduces a teenage girl carrying a secret that no one around her seems to notice, so she retreats to a basement cubicle and wonders whether anyone will come downstairs. The subject is trichotillomania, a body focused repetitive behavior involving the compulsive urge to pull out one's hair, and the show explains it along the way for anyone hearing the word for the first time.
The piece moves between mental health, isolation, and the long path toward recovery using humor, warmth, vulnerability, and a generous pile of 90s references. It premiered at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City, where Schneider received the Best Actress and Audience Choice awards, and it has since played regional stages along the East Coast and served as an education and advocacy tool at mental health conferences.
The WCR Center for the Arts hosts this Saturday afternoon performance in downtown Reading, presented with support from the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Haven Behavioral Hospital. The running time is about 75 minutes.
