Single Rooms for Rent at the Reading YMCA

The YMCA of Reading & Berks County rents single rooms to single men and women at its Reading branch. Two sets of rooms are listed, one called Single Room Occupancy (General) and one called Single Room Occupancy (Serenity Hall).

Residents of these rooms are exempt from the eligibility requirements that apply to the Y's other transitional living programs, although the Y strives to maintain a recovery atmosphere in the building.

There is a $100.00 one time registration fee. The page does not say what the rent is, how long you can stay, or whether a room is available now, so ask.

Registration for both the General rooms and the Serenity Hall rooms is at the front desk. The Y also posts a housing application, one version to fill out online and one as a PDF, with completed applications returned to 631 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. That application sits with the Y's transitional living programs, which have their own eligibility rules; the single rooms are listed as front desk registration only.

For the Serenity Hall rooms, the contacts listed are Mary Halstead at 610-378-4720 and Gary Matthews at 610-378-4706. No contact is listed for the General rooms. The YMCA of Reading & Berks County headquarters number, (610) 378-4700, is the general number for questions.

The page gives few other details. It lists the rooms only as being at the Reading branch and does not give the street address of the rooms, office hours, a waiting list or what to bring with you, so it is worth asking about all of that before you go.
