Medical Advocates for Abuse Survivors at Berks Hospitals From Safe Berks
Safe Berks works with Berks County healthcare facilities through its Medical Advocacy Partnership Program (MAPP) to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking who are seeking medical care. Safe Berks educates healthcare providers and helps provide a warm hand off between services.
The program serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. On-site medical advocates serve at Reading Hospital/Tower Health, Penn State Health St. Joseph, and Berks Community Health Center.
Medical advocates respond to medical advocacy calls and connect survivors with Safe Berks information, advocacy, safety planning, shelter and counseling. Advocates are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
There are three ways to ask for a medical advocate: - Call the Safe Berks 24-hour hotline at 844-789-SAFE (7233). - Text SAFE BERKS to 20121. - Ask for a Safe Berks medical advocate while you are at a local hospital or healthcare center.
The hotline is free and is answered 24 hours a day, with help available in English and Spanish. Safe Berks describes its services as free and confidential, offered 24/7 in English, Spanish or any other language needed.
The Safe Berks main office is at 255 Chestnut Street, Reading, PA 19602, phone 610-373-1206, open Monday through Friday 8:00AM until 4:30PM and closed on most major holidays. The Safe House line, 844-789-7233/844-789-SAFE, is answered 24/7.
The program also offers free "Lunch & Learns" for hospitals, healthcare centers and other healthcare providers, with lunch and information on how to screen patients for domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking and how to serve survivors.
