Help Getting a Protection From Abuse Order From Safe Berks
Safe Berks legal advocates help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with protection orders and with the police and court process. An advocate can come with you to a police interview, come with you to criminal hearings, and assist with filing Protection From Abuse (PFA) Orders, Sexual Violence Protection Orders (SVPO), or Protection From Intimidation Orders (PFI). All Legal Services are free, confidential and available in all languages.
Safe Berks, formerly Berks Women in Crisis, provides a safe haven and ongoing support system for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and its services are available to all victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
To schedule an appointment with Legal Services, call 610-373-1206, ext. 107. For legal questions and concerns, call the same number and leave a message. Messages are checked frequently by the Legal Advocates, who will call clients back. The Legal Services section does not list hours for the program itself.
Applications for Temporary Protection Orders are made between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Protection From Abuse Office located on the 1st floor of the Berks County Services Center at 633 Court Street in Reading. That county office is a separate building from Safe Berks. If a hearing date is scheduled, call the Safe Berks office at 610-373-1206 ext 107 to schedule an appointment.
