Short-Term Counseling for Berks Community Health Center Patients
Berks Community Health Center runs an Integrated Behavioral Health program that gives its medical patients short-term counseling for emotional and mental health needs. A Behavioral Health Specialist works together with your medical team, and the program is available at all 838 Penn St., Oakbrook and Rockland locations.
The team helps with anxiety, depression, smoking cessation, substance abuse, stress management, and trouble controlling chronic health conditions such as pain management, diabetes and hypertension.
To be seen, you must be a medical patient with Berks Community Health Center, and you should have had a visit with your medical provider before your first behavioral health appointment.
A visit is a brief 15 to 30 minute session that can take place during a medical visit or be scheduled separately. The therapist will explore your current needs and the reason for your visit, screen you for acute stressors such as depression, anxiety, sleep difficulty and health management, and introduce you to interventions to improve your quality of life. Your primary care provider stays involved in the process, and you may need a follow-up appointment as needed.
This is not long-term therapy. The team is there to help you handle life stressors and create a plan to get through those situations. For chronic depression or other ongoing issues, they refer you out to a community partner, and if you need longer-term counseling they can refer you to a provider in Berks County.
The counselors are Niya Grenevich, MS, MA LPC, NCC; Evelyn Colon-Vazquez, LPC, NCC, CCTP; Joanaliz Nieves, MFT, LPC, NCC, CCTSF; Perla Martinez, LCSW; and Helen Lugo, LCSW, BSL, CFRS, CRS, CTTS.
Call 610-988-4838 to make an appointment. BCHC at Penn Street, 838 Penn St., BCHC at Rockland and BCHC at Oakbrook are each open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. Street addresses for the Rockland and Oakbrook offices are not given, so ask when you call.
The page does not say what a behavioral health visit costs or which insurance is accepted, so ask about cost when you call.
