Peer Support From Certified Peer Specialists in Wyomissing
The Greater Reading Mental Health Alliance runs a Peer Support Program that offers community-based services for people living with serious mental health or co-occurring disorders. The work is done by Certified Peer Specialists, staff who are in recovery themselves and use that experience to support recovery and wellness through a collaborative, strength-based approach.
To qualify you need two things: a recommendation from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts, and participating insurance. The practitioner can be a physician, physician assistant, certified registered nurse practitioner, licensed clinical social worker, licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional counselor or psychologist. Peer support services are billed through Medicaid. If the person being referred does not have Medicaid, Service Access & Management provides funding for the service; call the alliance for details.
To get started, ask your treating practitioner to complete the Referral and Recommendation forms posted on the Peer Support Services page at grmha.org. Once the practitioner completes the form, it can be emailed to the address listed on that page, faxed to 610-775-4000, or mailed to GRMHA, 1234 Penn Ave., Wyomissing, Pa 19610. The alliance will then schedule an intake.
