Don't Read This Book Club: The 57 Bus
Starts Tue, Nov 24, 6:00 PM · Free

About the program
The Don't Read This Book Club at Brandywine Community Library takes on The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater. Read the book ahead of time, then come to the library to talk it over with the group. The title is young adult, and the discussion is open to both teens and adults.
The 57 Bus follows two Oakland, California high school students whose paths crossed for only a few minutes each day on the same bus ride. Sasha, a white teen, lived in the middle-class foothills and went to a small private school. Richard, a Black teen, lived in the flatlands and went to a large public school. One afternoon a single reckless act left Sasha severely burned and Richard charged with two hate crimes. The case drew international attention, and Slater's reporting shows a story far more complicated than a simple matter of victim and criminal.
The club meets at the library on Tower Drive in Topton. Bring your thoughts on the book and your questions for the group. Contact the library for details on getting a copy and joining the discussion.
