Overbooked Book Club for Adults
Starts Tue, Oct 20, 6:00 PM · Free
About the program
The Overbooked Book Club meets at Brandywine Community Library in Topton to talk about a shared title. Adults read the book ahead of time and come ready to share what they thought of it. Meetings are held in the evening and last about an hour.
The group's current pick is "Shut Up and Read: A Memoir from Harriett's Bookshop" by Jeannine A. Cook. Cook, who also wrote "It's Me They Follow," tells how she left three jobs and a difficult past behind to open a Philadelphia bookshop named for Harriet Tubman, a store built to celebrate women authors, artists and activists. It opened weeks before the Covid pandemic closed its doors, and the memoir follows what happened next, including satellite shops in places as unlikely as movie theaters and horse trailers.
The club is geared to adults, and there is no charge to take part. Copies of the book and details about joining a meeting are available from the library staff, who can be reached at 610 682 7115.
