This beginner class introduces flameworking, the craft of shaping glass at a torch. Working with glass rods and a torch, students learn to heat, melt and form their own glass beads, with attention to safe studio habits along the way. It is open to all skill levels, so no prior glass experience is needed. Nikki Vitchner is the instructor.
The class meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM for five sessions at GoggleWorks, 201 Washington St in Reading. Sessions take place in the Flameworking Studio in Building 6. If you are not sure where to go, the front desk can point you to the right building when you arrive.
Wear natural fabrics such as cotton rather than polyester, and tie back long hair before working in the studio. Registration closes five business days before the first session. Students under 18 enrolling in an adult course need written permission from a parent or guardian, which GoggleWorks provides by email. Sign up through the class page on the GoggleWorks website.
