This adaptive dance class gives dancers with multiple disabilities a supportive place to move, create, and succeed. Through music, movement, and sensory-rich activities, students work on creative expression while building strength, coordination, body awareness, and confidence.
Each class follows the same routine: a circle time warm-up, adapted movement activities, and a simple dance combination that encourages participation, memory, and enjoyment. Mr. Tom individualizes instruction for each dancer and may use visual supports, assistive devices, physical guidance, and sensory-friendly strategies. Activities are adapted for a wide range of mobility levels, including dancers who use wheelchairs or need extra physical support.
Along with movement, dancers build communication and social interaction in an inclusive group where participation and personal achievement are celebrated. No prior dance experience is needed, and the class meets each dancer where they are. Classes meet Friday evenings for ages 8 to 14. Sign up through the Yocum Institute for Arts Education.
