Trains run on scheduled dates only: the Pumpkin Train on October weekends and the Santa Express from November 21 to December 20, 2026.

Plan the day
Black River & Western Railroad is a heritage railroad in Hunterdon County, NJ, that runs volunteer-staffed passenger trains between Flemington and Ringoes. Fall and holiday trains board at Flemington Station.
The railroad began in the early 1960s with a group of friends who liked steam railroading, and its public trains cover six miles of a 16-mile shortline that still carries freight. In October the Pumpkin Train rides from Flemington to Everitt Farms at Pumpkin Junction for about an hour of pumpkin patch, corn maze, wagon rides and petting zoo; from late November Santa and Mrs. Claus ride the Santa Express.
Before you go
Buy tickets online ahead; none are held for sale at the station. Children under 3 ride free on a lap. Boarding takes a set of stairs (the historic cars are not ADA accessible). Leave large bags in the car; strollers and car seats are not recommended. Free parking across from Flemington Station.
Coming up
The Pumpkin Train runs Saturdays and Sundays October 10 to 25 at 10 AM, 12:30 PM and 3 PM from Flemington; the Santa Express runs November 21, 22, 27 to 29, December 5, 6, 12, 13 and 18 to 20.
