Plan the day
The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is a state-run museum in Strasburg, PA with more than 100 locomotives and railroad cars from the mid 1800s to the 1900s on display, indoors and out.
It is a full-size collection you walk through at track level: locomotives and passenger and freight cars from the mid 1800s on, with platforms and staircases at some so you can look through the windows. Across the street, the Strasburg Rail Road runs steam excursions, so the two make a day. An average visit is 90 minutes to two hours, and adult admission is $10.
Before you go
Personal photography is welcome indoors and out (not in the second floor art gallery). No food in the exhibit halls; snack and drink machines are on Platform 5 West. Most locomotives and cars are viewed from the ground, a few from platforms. Park in the main lot on the east side of the museum.
