The Choo Choo Barn is a 1,700 square foot model train layout in Strasburg, PA, running 17 trains past over 180 hand-built animated figures and vehicles, by the site's count.

The display has been growing since 1961, and the site says new animations and scenes are added every year, so it changes between visits. Hand-built figures move through the scenes while 17 trains run, and photos and video are welcome. The site suggests at least an hour and says Tuesday through Thursday are the least crowded days.

Before you go

Keep your receipt for same-day re-entry. Single strollers fit the aisles; double-wide (over 27 inches) and double-long strollers do not. Standard wheelchairs fit; the site says motorized scooters sometimes have trouble on the turns. Cameras welcome. Tuesday to Thursday are the quietest days.

Coming up
