Berks County Parks and Recreation leads an evening walk along the Union Canal Trail, timed to the full moon. The group gathers at the Berks Leisure Area on Tulpehocken Road in Wyomissing, where an iron and wood footbridge crosses Tulpehocken Creek to reach the trail, following the same towpath route mules once used to pull canal boats.
The path is flat crushed stone and easy going underfoot, which makes it a comfortable route for walkers of varying paces. Come in sturdy hiking or walking shoes and bring a flashlight. The whole outing takes place outdoors, so dress for a late November evening with warm layers.
It is a quiet way to see a familiar local trail in a different light, with the creek alongside and the moon rising over the valley. Registration is required ahead of time through Berks County Parks and Recreation.
