About the event
The Berks County Genealogical Society hosts a Genealogy 101 session led by Betty Sustello at the GoggleWorks, Room 413. It is part of a set of Saturday afternoon classes built for anyone who has wondered where their family came from and wants a clear place to begin.
The classes walk through starting a family tree, organizing the papers and stories you have already collected, working with census records and vital documents, and researching online. Instruction also covers free websites that can open up new branches of a family line, so you can keep going on your own between sessions.
There is time built in around the class for hands on searching, with doors open from noon and research continuing until 4 p.m. During those hours attendees have access to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, which makes it easy to test out a new technique while it is still fresh. Bring what you know about your relatives and see how far it takes you.
