About the event
The Berks County Genealogical Society welcomes anyone curious about their family history to a Saturday session of Genealogy 101 at GoggleWorks, Room 413 on the fourth floor. Instructor Betty Sustello leads this four part Saturday class series, which is built for beginners who want a clear path into researching their ancestors.
The classes cover how to get started on a family tree, ways to organize the records and stories you gather, census records and vital documents, strategies for online research, and free websites that can open up new branches of your search. Each topic is presented in plain terms, so you can leave with steps you can put to use at home.
There is extra time built around the class for hands on work. Participants can arrive as early as noon and stay until 4 p.m. to dig into their own research, with access to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch available during those hours. It is a welcoming setting for Berks County residents tracing local roots as well as anyone following a family line farther afield.
