Where416 Franklin Street, Reading

In February 1926, Harry Houdini came to Reading to speak at the Universalist Church of Our Father on Franklin Street, at the invitation of Rev. L. Griswold Williams. By then he was known across the country both for his escapes and for his work exposing fraudulent mediums and spiritualists. This performance returns to that same Franklin Street setting to revisit that chapter of his life.

Magician Joel Delgado, who lives in Reading and performs around Berks and neighboring counties, combines historical storytelling with theatrical magic, inviting the audience into the world Houdini questioned and asking how any of us decide what to believe. Adolfo Buso directs. Expect history, illusion, and a bit of friendly skepticism, with audience members sometimes invited up for demonstrations on stage.

The evening is built for a general audience and treats the historic character of the church with care. A portion of the proceeds benefits Reading Pride Celebration and the LGBT Center of Greater Reading, making this a fitting way to spend the night before Halloween.
