About the event
East Coast Karate welcomes new students of all ages with a single introductory session at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in West Lawn. This one time class is the starting point for anyone age 6 through adult who wants to join the traditional martial arts program, and it offers a clear look at how training works before committing to a regular schedule.
The program focuses on mind, body, and spirit together. Students learn practical skills for protecting themselves along with the confidence to use them, while building focus, self-discipline, respect, and persistence that carry over into school, work, and daily life. During the class, instructors talk with families and students about placement so everyone knows which section fits best going forward.
Come in comfortable exercise clothes, meaning long pants and a t-shirt. Training is done in bare feet, and no uniform is needed for this introductory session. Students who complete the class may continue attending sessions for the rest of the month.
