The Reading Symphony Orchestra closes out the year at the Santander Performing Arts Center with a program built around the songbooks of Elton John and Billy Joel. Brent Chancellor conducts, and the orchestra shares the stage with Jeans 'n Classics, the touring rock company founded by guitarist and arranger Peter Brennan, with vocalist Jean Meilleur out front.
Jeans 'n Classics is not a tribute act. The group reinterprets landmark rock and pop songs in full orchestral arrangements that put the symphony front and center through a rock lens, so familiar piano hits arrive with strings, horns and a live band behind them. Expect a night that leans toward singing along and swaying in your seat rather than sitting still.
The show starts at 7:30 PM on December 31, making it an easy anchor for a New Year's Eve downtown, whether you build dinner around it or make a full evening in Reading out of it. Formal dress is welcome but entirely optional.
