Spend a Sunday afternoon inside the working studios at GoggleWorks in Reading. This free, self guided studio crawl opens up the second and third floors, where artists keep their spaces and fill the surrounding hallways with finished work. You set the pace, wandering from door to door and taking in as much as you like.
Many of the studio artists plan to be on hand through the afternoon, so there is a good chance to meet the people behind the work, ask about their process, and see the tools and materials they use every day. It is a relaxed way to get a look at how art actually gets made, and a familiar face from the neighborhood may well turn up in the next hallway.
Families and first time visitors are welcome, and no preparation is needed. Bring a friend, or come on your own and strike up a conversation. Artists are typically in their studios until 4 p.m., which makes the early and middle part of the afternoon a fine window to arrive.
