The Miller Center for the Arts welcomes The Carole King & James Taylor Story to Reading on October 10, 2026. Singers and songwriters Phoebe Katis and Dan Clews perform the music of two artists who shaped the singer/songwriter era, with Katis at the piano in the role of Carole King and Clews on guitar as James Taylor.
The show is part concert and part storytelling. It opens with King's early days writing for other artists in the Brill Building, moves through Taylor's first recordings and his rise with "Fire and Rain," and traces how Taylor encouraged King to step out as a recording artist herself on "Tapestry," closing with "You've Got a Friend." Along the way the pair cover familiar songs including "Sweet Baby James," "I Feel the Earth Move" and "A Natural Woman."
Katis and Clews have brought the program to performing arts centers, music festivals and the Edinburgh Fringe, and the intimate scale of the Miller Center suits a two-person acoustic evening. Free parking for Miller Center events is available in the RACC flat student lots on a first-come basis, with Student Lot A on Front Street sitting closest to the theater, next to the Yocum Library at 30 South Front Street.
