Clothing Closets for Hope Rescue Mission and LightHouse Guests

Hope Rescue Mission keeps clothing closets stocked for people staying at The Mission and at the LightHouse Women & Children's Center in Reading. The clothing comes in through HopeThrift, the Mission's clothing donation and reuse program. Volunteers sort the donations and stock the closets, and guests are welcomed to come and shop for their clothing needs. At LightHouse this takes the form of a store, described as a boutique for women and children.

Anyone who stays with either The Mission or LightHouse will be able to come and get what they need from the closet. The page does not describe clothing for people who are not staying at one of the two shelters.

What is on the shelves depends on what has been donated. HopeThrift accepts all seasons of men, women, and children's clothing, including hats, scarfs, coats, shirts, pants, dresses, belts, purses, backpacks, socks, and new underwear, along with toiletries like deodorant, lotion, razors, shampoo, and shaving cream.

The page does not say what hours the closets or the LightHouse store are open, whether you need to ask a staff member first, how much you may take, or whether there is any cost, so ask the staff where you are staying.

Hope Rescue Mission is at 645 North Sixth Street, Reading, PA 19601, and its general phone number is (610) 375-4224. The LightHouse Women & Children's Center is at 715 North Sixth Street, Reading, PA 19601, and its general number is (610) 484-4495. Those are general contacts for the organization rather than a line set up for the clothing closets.

One thing to know: Hope Outlet has closed. The warehouse at 35 Queen Street and the donation bins around Berks County are places to drop off clothing donations, not places where guests shop.

In Hope Rescue Mission’s words

The LightHouse store is one of the ways that HopeThrift supports individuals and families in our community. Clothing donations are sorted by volunteers. Guests are then welcomed to come and shop for their clothing needs.
