LightHouse Shelter for Women and Children in Reading

Hope Rescue Mission runs the LightHouse Women & Children's Center at 715 North Sixth Street in Reading, a shelter for single women and for women with children who have nowhere to stay. The center opened in October 2023, after a ribbon-cutting on July 7, 2023, in a renovated 25,000 square foot former thrift store on the mission's 4.6 acre campus.

There are 43 residential rooms, each with private restroom facilities, so that women and children have dignity, safety and a place of peace to get back on their feet after experiencing the trauma of homelessness.

To ask for a room, fill out the LightHouse application form on the mission's site at hopeforreading.org/lighthouse-application. If you are using a phone or tablet, scroll back to the top of the page after you submit to check for a confirmation message. If the interactive form does not load, you can download the fillable PDF from that page and email the completed form to applyLH@hopeforreading.org.

With questions about the center, call (610) 484-4495 or email LightHouse@HopeForReading.org. The address is 715 North Sixth Street, Reading, PA 19601. The main Hope Rescue Mission office, at 645 North Sixth Street, Reading, PA 19601, is the general contact for the organization and can be reached at (610) 375-4224.

Hope Rescue Mission has been a place of refuge for homeless men, women and children of Berks County since 1894, and offers residential programs that people can work their way through to transition back into the community as productive and independent individuals.

The site does not say what a stay costs, what hours the center takes applications or calls, how long you can stay, or whether rooms are open at the moment. Ask when you call or when you send in the form.
