Safe Haven Shelter for Employed Men From Hope Rescue Mission in Reading
Safe Haven is Hope Rescue Mission's next step emergency shelter in Reading, providing up to three months of support to 53 men per night who have attained gainful employment or fixed income benefits.
It is for men who have already reached that point of having a job or fixed income benefits. Guests stay in a more private environment and have their own lockable wardrobe and electrical outlets.
Guests have access to the same resources listed under the Mission's Genesis emergency shelter program: three meals daily, free clothing and personal care items, and access to Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and showers. Each evening, guests are encouraged to attend chapel services led by local church partners. Case managers identify and coordinate support for the wide range of factors that led to each man's homelessness, including mental health, addiction, legal and financial struggles.
Men in the Mission's programs can also use its mental health and substance use support. Through a partnership with Berks Counseling Center, the Resilient Horizons program provides mental health, drug and alcohol, and dual diagnosis services to participants in need of clinical support. In partnership with Recovery Coaching Services, the Mission offers individual recovery coaching, support groups, and referral services to treatment and recovery programs, and it hosts onsite AA and NA meetings. Workforce Development Classes, GED Preparation Classes, Smoking Cessation Classes, and one-on-one weekly mentorship are offered at various times.
Men who complete the emergency shelter program and demonstrate financial stability may qualify for the Mission's Transitional Housing program, which offers housing contracts of up to six months in single-occupancy furnished rooms. Seniors may qualify for extended stays of up to one year.
