Job Search and Computer Skills Workshops at PA CareerLink Berks County
PA CareerLink Berks County runs short group workshops, called Expanded Career Services, for people who want to sharpen their job seeking and professional skills.
Any member of the community looking to advance their job seeking and professional skills may register. The page does not list an income rule or any other requirement to join a workshop.
You pick the workshops that fit what you need. The topics are Resume Success, Ace the Interview, Career Exploration & Networking, Excel for Beginners, Word for Beginners, Computer Basics, Job Seeking in Today's Environment (A Guide for the 40+ Community), Marketing Yourself-Creating a Professional Brand, Success in the First 90 Days of Employment, Tips for Before and After an Interview and Professional Communications. Each workshop runs about 1 1/2 hours.
To take part, view the calendar of events and pre-register at pacareerlink.pa.gov. That calendar is also where the days and times of each workshop are listed. Information is also posted on Facebook at PA CareerLink Berks County. The page does not say what a workshop costs; most CareerLink services are federally funded and provided at no cost, and eligibility requirements apply for some programs.
The office is at 1920 Kutztown Road, Suite F, Reading, PA 19604. Public office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, and Wednesday 10:00am to 4:30pm; these are the hours the building is open, not the workshop times. For general questions, the job seekers phone is (610) 988-1300, relay services dial 711, or email info@careerlinkberks.com.
Two other things are worth knowing. The office also keeps a Resource Room open to the public Monday through Friday 10:00am to 3:00pm, with internet-accessible computers, job search materials, a free fax machine and a copier at 5 cents a page. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities, and language assistance services are available free of cost. During bad weather, closings are posted on WFMZ StormCenter at wfmz.com/weather/stormcenter.
