Mobile Mammography Coach Screenings From Reading Hospital
Reading Hospital sends a Mobile Mammography Coach into the community so people can get a screening mammogram close to home, with the same state-of-the-art technology and expert staff found at any of its breast imaging centers. The coach is sponsored by the Reading Hospital Foundation. Its purpose is to increase access to breast screenings and to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, and Reading Hospital says it looks forward to taking care of the community regardless of insurance.
Who it is for: talk with your primary care provider or OB/GYN to decide at what age you should begin screening and what type of screening is most effective for you, based on your breast cancer risk. For women at average risk of breast cancer, annual screening mammograms should begin at age 40. Women found to be at higher risk may begin earlier, as directed by their medical provider.
What you get is a 3D screening mammogram on a spacious coach with two changing rooms for privacy, and a gown to wear during the screening. A radiologist reviews your scan and provides a report. If you are enrolled in the MyTowerHealth patient portal, your results are available there as soon as the report is completed. If you are not enrolled, Reading Hospital mails you a letter with your results within two weeks; if the letter does not arrive, call 484-628-3108. To enroll in the portal, go to mytowerhealth.org/mytowerhealth/app/activation. If your results are abnormal, Reading Hospital follows up with you and your primary care physician to schedule further testing.
Appointments are required. Call 1-833-348-6937 to schedule, and have your health insurance policy number and your primary care physician's contact information ready.
Bring to the appointment: - your insurance cards - photo ID
Do not wear any deodorant, lotion, or cream around your chest area the day of your appointment, and wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to remove your top.
On cost, preventive screenings are covered under most insurance plans. If you are uninsured or underinsured, the Patient Financial Assistance Program will work to enroll women who meet eligibility requirements; call the Reading Hospital Financial Counselors at 484-628-7400 with questions.
