With a payment arrangement you pay off a past-due balance over time. CARES is shut off protection for customers with a temporary hardship, such as injury or illness. Budget billing averages your electric use for the entire year to make your payments more predictable. PPL also lists programs for customers who are income eligible: OnTrack, a fixed monthly payment with possible debt forgiveness if you have a past due balance; WRAP, free energy saving products and services for homeowners and renters; Operation HELP, a fuel fund that gives cash grants; and LIHEAP, the federal program with grants for home heating bills and emergencies during the winter.

To start, sign in to your online account and click "Get help paying." PPL asks some questions about your household and tells you which programs will benefit you most.

If you already have a shut off scheduled, sign in to your online account right away, click "Get help paying" and follow the prompts to review your options to stop a shut off. If you are not currently on a payment agreement, applying for a new one stops your scheduled termination and lets you make payments toward the past-due balance over time. If you have a payment agreement and it is past due, you can review the amount required to reinstate the agreement and stop the shut off.

If you or a member of your household is seriously ill or has been diagnosed with a medical condition requiring the continuation of electric service, PPL may accept a medical certificate from a licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The official medical certificate form can be downloaded from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission's website at puc.pa.gov.

If you currently have a valid Protection from Abuse Order, you may be eligible for additional protections, regardless of your income.
