Budget Billing From UGI Utilities to Even Out Your Gas or Electric Bills
UGI Utilities offers Budget Billing, a free service that spreads your natural gas or electric costs evenly over the year so your bill stays about the same each month instead of spiking in heating or cooling season.
It is meant for customers whose usage swings widely from month to month or is seasonal. To enroll, your account must be active with no past due balance, it cannot be enrolled in the Customer Assistance Program (CAP), and it must have a residential or small commercial rate category.
UGI Utilities estimates your charges for the year and spreads them evenly over the Budget Billing Plan period to set your Budget Billing Amount. That amount may be adjusted up or down every three billing periods based on changes in your actual charges or in UGI Utilities rates. If you do not pay on time, UGI may remove you from the plan.
At the 12th billing period, UGI compares your actual charges to the total of the Budget Billing Amounts you paid and figures your Budget Close Out Balance. If your actual charges were more than you paid, you owe that balance, and if it is more than $100 you can ask UGI to spread it over several billing periods. If your actual charges were less than you paid, UGI credits the difference to your account. Your plan then renews automatically with a new Budget Billing Amount for the next budget year.
To sign up, create an online account or log in to your existing account and enroll there. UGI Utilities can be reached at 800-276-2722, and the same number is listed for people using a screen reader who are having difficulty. The page does not say whether you can enroll by phone or give office hours.
