Free Home Energy Assessment and Weatherization From PPL Electric Utilities WRAP
PPL Electric Utilities runs WRAP, which gives income-eligible customers a no-cost energy assessment, free energy-saving products and energy tips meant to lower electric use over the long term. You may qualify whether you own or rent your home.
To qualify, your household income must be 200% or less of the Federal poverty income guidelines, and you must be at least 18 years of age. The yearly income limits are $31,920 for a household of 1, $43,280 for 2, $54,640 for 3, $66,000 for 4, $77,360 for 5, $88,720 for 6, $100,080 for 7 and $111,440 for 8, adding $11,360 for each additional person.
You can choose an on-site or a remote assessment. For an on-site assessment, certified energy professionals come to your home, look at each room and recommend updates based on your heating and hot water types, and energy-saving items are installed during the visit. Homes with electric heating may be eligible for additional whole-home upgrades. A remote assessment is done over the phone with an advisor who asks about your home's energy use and gives you personalized energy-saving tips, and the energy-saving products are mailed to you afterward to install yourself.
Qualified customers with electric heat may be eligible for upgrades like insulation, air sealing, a heat pump, water heater and smart thermostats. All qualifying customers may also receive items such as LED lightbulbs and nightlights, smart power strips, and energy-efficient showerheads and aerators. The showerheads and aerators are for homes with electric hot water heaters only.
Start by completing an application, which can be done online. Once it is approved, PPL's Customer Care team will schedule your assessment. Someone 18 years or older must be home at the time of your assessment. If you rent, have your landlord's contact information ready.
Call 1-888-232-6302 to get started. English and Spanish-speaking representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The assessments are completed by contractors PPL Electric works with, including CLEAResult, CMC Energy Services, Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO), Custom Weatherization, Green Kite, Inc., K2 Weatherization, MT Weatherization, Schuylkill Community Action, Taylor Home Solutions, True Management, LLC and York Home Performance. The page does not say how long it takes to get an appointment after you apply.
