Mengel Natural History Society: Spotted Lanternflies and Honey Bees
Starts Fri, Mar 26, 7:30 PM · Free

About the class
The Mengel Natural History Society hosts an evening presentation at Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center on a surprising link between spotted lanternflies and honey bees. The speaker is Dr. Robyn Underwood, Penn State Extension's educator of apiculture, which is beekeeping.
Spotted lanternflies feed on plant phloem and take in far more sugar and water than they need. They give off large amounts of honeydew, a sugary waste product. Honey bees gather that honeydew, carry it back to the hive, and turn it into honey. The talk looks at what that means for bees, and asks what it may mean for people too.
Mengel meetings are open to the public. Please meet in the McConnell Hall classroom for the presentation. No registration is required, so you can simply come to the classroom at the start time listed in the schedule.
