This presentation looks at how people lit their homes, workplaces and public rooms in early America. Light mattered for household chores, skilled trades, writing and reading, and even the work of the Continental Congress. The talk covers the parts that made up early lighting, how candle making changed over time, and the different methods people used to hold back the dark.

The program also turns to the American Revolution and the part lighting played in it, from daily camp life to the battlefield. It is set up as an educational talk, so come ready to listen, look and ask questions. The program is open to teens and adults ages 16 and up.

Spring Township Parks and Recreation hosts the program on a Sunday afternoon at the Township of Spring Administration Building, 2850 Windmill Road in Sinking Spring. Registration is online through the township's Parks and Recreation activity search page, and we suggest signing up ahead of the closing date listed in the schedule panel.
