HVAC Companies in Berks County, PA
The companies listed above are local HVAC contractors and heating and cooling companies serving Berks County: Reading, Wyomissing, Sinking Spring, Leesport, Kutztown, Hamburg, Boyertown, and the townships in between. You'll find independent local shops and larger heating and air conditioning companies side by side, most handling both residential and commercial HVAC work.
Heating and Cooling in Berks County Homes
Berks County heats with more fuels than most places. The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey puts utility gas at about 42% of occupied homes, with fuel oil and electricity near 23% each and propane at 7%. Gas is most common in Reading, where 54% of homes use it; the share drops in the townships, where oil tanks, propane, and heat pumps carry the load. Ask any contractor you call whether they service your fuel before they roll a truck.
The housing stock is old. More than a quarter of Berks homes were built before 1940, and in Reading it is more than half, most of them attached rowhomes and twins. Older houses often heat with a boiler and radiators and have no ductwork, so adding air conditioning usually means a ductless mini-split rather than central air.
Winters here run about 5,390 heating degree days a year against 895 cooling degree days, so heating capacity matters more than cooling when you size a system. Rebates as of September 2026: UGI gas customers can get $500 on an ENERGY STAR furnace and $1,200 on a 94+ AFUE boiler for installs before September 30, 2026; PPL customers get $225 to $325 on an air-source heat pump; Met-Ed has not yet published its new program; the federal tax credit ended December 31, 2025. Our posts on heat pump cost and rebates and heat pump vs furnace in a Berks winter carry the details.
