The Tileworks of Bucks County (Moravian Pottery and Tile Works)
Doylestown, PA · 1 hour 30 minutes from Reading · Under $20 a person

Plan the day
The TileWorks is the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, the tile factory Henry Chapman Mercer built in 1911 and 1912 in Doylestown, PA, where craftsmen still turn Bucks County clay into Mercer tiles.
The self-paced TileWorks Tour goes through the decorative halls and the historic workshops where the craftsmen still make Mercer tiles from local clay, and on Tuesdays a Tour with Clay Experience adds a 3-inch tile you press yourself with traditional methods and the factory's own glazes. The shop sells the tiles made on site. In October the grounds add a haunted tour, Terror at the TileWorks, and a two-day Pumpkinfest.
Before you go
Book tours online ahead through the store's booking system; NARM and ROAM members pick that option and bring their card. A tile made in the Tuesday clay experience is ready for pickup in about four weeks, or can be shipped for a fee. Pet paw-print plaques are made Wednesdays 10 am to 3 pm.
