11th Annual Birdhouse Challenge

About the event
Habitat for Humanity of Berks County brings its Birdhouse Challenge to Redner's Event Center in Reading, and it is one of the organization's signature evenings. The setup is simple and spirited: handcrafted birdhouses line the room, guests look them over, and then an auctioneer takes the floor. The evening also includes live music, a silent auction, and the Bottle Pull that regulars look forward to.
The birdhouses themselves are the draw. Past years have brought creations shaped like local landmarks, locomotives, and anime characters, built by area artisans and other community members, including high school and college students who donate their projects. Habitat Berks executive director Timothy J. Daley has described the pieces as works of art, closer to an art show than a competition.
Proceeds support affordable homeownership in Berks County, work done by a local nonprofit whose focus is giving moderate income families a safe and affordable place to live, with contributions staying in the community. Come to bid, come to sponsor, or come to build a birdhouse of your own and add it to the lineup.
