Wyomissing turns into a Halloween neighborhood for the BOO'ing Halloween House Decorating Contest, a borough wide celebration of yards, porches, and rooftops dressed for the season. Judges travel through town looking for the most creative and spirited displays, from glowing pumpkins and eerie lighting to ghosts in the yard, spiders overhead, and full haunted scenes. It leads into the Spooky Hollow Halloween Carnival, so the decorations go up while the rest of the season is still building.
Residents can enter by emailing the recreation office with a name, contact information, and address, and neighbors can be nominated too. Registration runs through October 27, judging happens October 28, and winners are announced October 30.
Alongside the judges' picks, the community helps choose a People's Choice Award. Once the decorated homes are posted on social media, the entry with the most likes takes that title. Creepy, kooky, mysterious, or completely over the top, every style is welcome, and anyone walking or driving through town during October can enjoy the results.
