About the event
Berks families are invited to a morning of practical, hands-on learning at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Reading Crest Avenue. Booths staffed by knowledgeable volunteers cover water purification, building a 72-hour kit and a car kit, family evacuation plans, generator use, pet safety, emergency communication planning, budgeting for the unexpected, and how to handle a fire extinguisher. Dutch oven cooking demonstrations round out the lineup, so you can see what a meal looks like when the power is out.
Children have plenty to do here too. Muhlenberg Township Fire & Rescue and the Muhlenberg Township Police Department are bringing vehicles for a touch a truck, and kids can take on a fire safety obstacle course or jump into sandbag filling races.
A free hot dog lunch is part of the day, along with the chance to win emergency supplies to take home. Bring the whole household, and invite a neighbor or two along.
