The Kutztown Area Historical Society opens its doors for an afternoon of ice cream and good company at 212 South Whiteoak Street. Stop in on Sunday, September 13 starting at 1:00 PM, meet the volunteers who care for the collection, and enjoy a scoop with neighbors from Kutztown and the surrounding towns.
The society makes its home in the 1892 public school building, a late Victorian structure with a three story bell tower and arched porch that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Inside, the museum holds local artifacts including antique textile implements, toys, farm and fire equipment, clothing and schoolroom items, along with a non-circulating library of books, manuscripts and genealogy materials tied to the Kutztown area.
It is a relaxed, come as you are gathering, and a comfortable way for families and first time visitors to get to know a building many locals remember from their school days. There is off street parking and an outdoor picnic area on the grounds.
