About the event
The Reading Liederkranz brings its Oktoberfest to the club grounds high on Mount Penn, near the Pagoda and Stokesay Castle. The German American singing and sport society has built this celebration around food made from scratch in its kitchen, including hand cut schnitzel and goulash, alongside sausages, pretzels, and German beer poured in the biergarten.
Music runs continuously, with bands on stage and sets from the Liederkranz Singers and the Edelweiss dancers, whose routines add stomping, thigh slapping, and the crack of a whip. A market tent nearby gathers importers and craftspeople selling steins, lederhosen, German toys, and specialty foods, so there is plenty to browse between songs.
The festival is open to the public, not just club members, and it goes on rain or shine. It is a relaxed way to spend an evening on the mountain with Bavarian music, a full plate, and a crowd in a good mood. Prost.
