Operation Share Energy Grants for UGI Customers Behind on Heating Bills
UGI Utilities runs the Operation Share Energy Fund, which gives energy assistance grants to UGI customers who have trouble paying their heating bills. The fund has done this since 1983 and became a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2005. It is paid for by voluntary donations from UGI employees, UGI customers and concerned citizens, plus a corporate donation from UGI. UGI personnel work with Community Based Organizations to distribute the program funds. The grant is a supplement to federal or state energy assistance programs, not a replacement, so it is meant to be used alongside programs such as LIHEAP rather than instead of them.
To qualify, you must be a residential UGI gas or electric customer, and your gross household income before taxes must be at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Income that benefits a minor under 18 is not counted.
Under the 250% Federal Poverty Income Guidelines for 2025-2026, the monthly income limits are:
- 1 person: $3,325
- 2 people: $4,508
- 3 people: $5,692
- 4 people: $6,875
- 5 people: $8,058
- 6 people: $9,242
- 7 people: $10,425
- 8 people: $11,608
- Above 8: add $1,183 per person
How to apply:
- Download the Operation Share application from ugi.com.
- Find the Community Based Organization that serves your ZIP code, using the list linked from the Operation Share page at ugi.com/assistance-programs/operation-share.
- Complete the application and gather supporting information such as proof of identity and income.
- Send the completed application to the Community Based Organization for your ZIP code.
The application is a form you fill out and send to that organization; no online submission is described. The page does not say how large a grant is, how long a decision takes, or when applications are accepted during the year. For general questions, UGI lists the phone number 800-276-2722. That same number is the one to call from a safe location if you smell gas or have a power outage.
