Independence Seaport Museum
Philadelphia, PA · 1 hour 22 minutes from Reading · $20 to $50 a person

Plan the day
Independence Seaport Museum is a maritime museum on the Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia, PA, with two historic ships moored outside: the cruiser Olympia and the submarine Becuna.
You can walk the decks of USS Olympia, which the museum calls the oldest steel warship afloat in the world, and take a guided tour through USS Becuna, a World War II-era submarine, on the same ticket. Inside, the galleries tell the history of the Philadelphia region through the lens of the Delaware River. In the warmer months the museum runs kayak excursions on the river.
Before you go
Park at the Hilton Penn's Landing garage (Walnut and Columbus), the Lombard Circle lot, or the Autopark at Old City. Allow extra time: Columbus Blvd is down to one lane from Market to Dock streets for the I-95 cap project. The ships are not ADA accessible. No cafe, but eateries line the waterfront.
