About the event

Chili takes over the fellowship hall at Nativity Lutheran Church on North 13th Street when local cooks bring their best pots for a friendly competition. Visitors sample the entries, compare notes on heat and seasoning, and cast a vote for the one they think deserves the title of best chili in town. The afternoon runs through dinnertime, so come hungry.

Proceeds support College Manor Pool, the nonprofit neighborhood pool in Hampden Heights that has been open to the community for decades. The pool has long been part of the rhythm of summer in northeast Reading, and events like this help keep it running for the families who swim there.

Cooks who want to compete can get in touch with organizer Cindy ahead of the date to claim a spot. Everyone else just needs an appetite and an opinion.
