A rainy afternoon, two kids with nothing to do, and a tall visitor in a red and white striped hat: Dr. Seuss's classic comes to life at the Santander Performing Arts Center. The Cat lets himself into Sally and her brother's quiet house and sets about proving that fun can be made out of almost nothing, while the family Fish looks on with plenty of opinions about the whole arrangement.
Dr. Seuss wrote the book in 1957 using a famously small vocabulary, and the stage version was adapted by the National Theatre of Britain. Thing One and Thing Two turn up as expected, and the production leans into physical comedy, quick surprises, and a fair amount of cheerful chaos that sometimes spills past the edge of the stage.
It is a good pick for families with young children and for grown-ups who grew up with the book. Doors open at 5:00 PM, which leaves time to find seats before the Cat arrives.
