About the event
Genesius Theatre brings the Balderston and Deane stage adaptation of Dracula to its North 10th Street home in Reading. Written in the 1920s at the request of Bram Stoker's widow, this was the first version of the story authorized by the Stoker estate, and it is the production that put Bela Lugosi in front of American audiences before the role moved to the screen.
The action unfolds in the London home of Dr. Seward and in the Count's crypt. Jonathan Harker is searching for the cause of the strange illness troubling Lucy, and when Dr. Seward sends for the unconventional Abraham Van Helsing at the same moment the family's mysterious neighbor offers his own assistance, the question becomes whose help can be trusted.
It is parlor horror in the classic style, a tribute to the novel, the stage tradition it inspired, and the films that followed. A fitting night out for anyone who enjoys a well told ghost story close to Halloween.
