About the class
Little Kuma is a karate class for young children at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education. "Kuma" means bear in Japanese. The goal is to build karate skills and life skills in a safe, fun, and controlled setting.
Classes work on self-control, respect, focus, listening, paying attention, teamwork, self-confidence, balance, physical fitness, and following directions. Instructors use games, skills and drills, and activities suited to this age group. Students have their own belt system and rank requirements, so they can see their progress over time. A uniform is required.
Students choose one section and attend on the days scheduled for that section. New Little Kuma students are accepted for enrollment on the first of each month. Sign up through the registration page on the Yocum Institute website.
