About the class
Little Kuma is an introduction to karate for children ages 3 to 5. "Kuma" means bear in Japanese, and the goal of the program is to build karate skills and life skills in a safe, fun and controlled setting. Classes use games, skills and drills, and activities suited to this age group.
Along the way, students work on self-control, respect, focus, listening, paying attention, teamwork, self-confidence, balance, physical fitness and following directions. Little Kuma students have their own belt system and rank requirements, so young students can see their progress as they go.
Sections meet on Thursdays, and families choose one section for their child. A uniform is required. New Little Kuma students start at the beginning of each month, so families joining mid month begin with the next group of new students.
