Trail Tales brings little ones outdoors for a morning of stories, nature, and hands on fun at the Berks County Heritage Center. The program centers on a nature topic paired with a story and a craft, with plants and animals of the county parks as the stars. Special guests and visitors sometimes drop in to join the fun.

The program is designed for children ages 3 to 5, with the pacing and attention span of that age group in mind. Grown ups stay along for the story and the craft, making it an easy outing to share.

The Heritage Center sits along the Tulpehocken Creek northwest of Reading, a historic park that includes Wertz's Covered Bridge, the Gruber Wagon Works, and the Union Canal Towpath Trail. The grounds stay open year round with restrooms and picnic tables, so families can linger for a walk after the program wraps up.
