About the course
Anime and manga are two popular forms of Japanese animation with a similar look. Anime usually turns up in TV shows and movies, while manga appears in comic books and graphic novels. Both use a drawing style that gives artists room to build their own techniques, and this class uses that style as a starting point.
Students design their own anime or manga character, or draw a favorite one. The class practices action poses and drawing techniques, and each student gets personal guidance. Projects include a glass painting activity done on clear plastic with paint, and students may bring an item of their own to work on instead.
The class meets Friday evenings from 8 PM to 9 PM and is open to ages 9 to 16. Register through the Yocum Institute for Arts Education; see the schedule panel for current session dates.
