Reading Civic Theater brings Stephen King's chilling coming-of-age story to the stage with a musical adaptation of Carrie. Carrie White is a teenage outcast who wants nothing more than to fit in. At school she is a target for the popular crowd and overlooked by nearly everyone else. At home she lives under the thumb of a loving but severely controlling mother.

What none of them realize is that Carrie has discovered a power of her own, and when pushed far enough, she is willing to use it. The score carries the story through high school hallways, a mother-daughter standoff, and a prom night that has become one of the most recognized moments in American horror.

This Sunday matinee at the Perkiomen Avenue theater in Exeter suits October audiences looking for something with more edge than a typical family musical. Given the story's intense themes and bullying, it is best suited to teens and adults.
